The Fenholloway River and its associated wetlands dominate this coastal Florida landscape, where the land meets the Gulf of Mexico. The area is characterized by a complex network of hammocks and islands, most notably Manlin Hammock, Thomas Mill Hammock, and Thomas Mill Island. These raised ground features provided crucial dry terrain for settlement and travel in an otherwise marshy environment drained by Thomas Mill Run and Steer Pen Slough.
