Massapoag Lake anchors the northern portion of this 1977 orthophotograph, surrounded by the growing residential and wooded landscape of Sharon. This imagery-based study, produced by the Geological Survey in cooperation with the Department of Public Works, reveals the precise footprint of South Shore development during the late 1970s.

The central corridor is defined by the winding course of the Canoe River, which flows south toward Mansfield and East Mansfield. The orthophoto format provides a unique opportunity to see the exact relationship between the established town centers of Foxboro and East Foxboro and the expanding infrastructure of Norfolk County.
