Kootenai National Forest and Kaniksu National Forest converge in this high-elevation landscape of the Cabinet Mountains during the mid-1960s. The topography is defined by the headwaters of the Mantrap Fork, which drains toward Fishtrap Lake and Upper Fishtrap Lake. Natural basins such as McGinnis Meadows and Jefferson Meadows provide the only level breaks in a terrain dominated by Davis Peak and Border Peak. For those tracing early resource extraction, the Sales Prospect is noted east of Whitney Creek. This survey captures a moment when the boundary between Sanders and Lincoln counties was carefully delineated through some of the state's most isolated drainages, including Radio Creek and Lazier Creek.
