The Mapleton and Cherryville settlements anchor the western edge of this Franklin County landscape, where the agricultural plains transition into the high elevations of the Bear River Range. The management of water is central to the local geography, evidenced by the Cub River Worm Cr Canal and Middle Ditch which redirect the flow of the Cub River to support the valley floor. To the east, the terrain rises sharply into the Cache National Forest, reaching its peak at the Andrew Nyman Mtn Wilderness Peak and the high basins surrounding Gibson Lakes. Numerous springs, such as Self Help Spring and Paul Jones Spring, dot the canyons and hollows, while dramatic landforms like Oxkiller Canyon and White Canyon define the drainage patterns of the mountainside.
