About this map

The Fourche La Fave River snakes through the northern lowlands of this Perry County landscape, creating a complex network of wetlands and oxbows including Winford Brake, Turkey Swamp, and Open Lake. This riverine environment contrasts sharply with the high ridges of the interior, where elevations climb toward Holmes Mountain, Wye Mountain, and the curiously named Suck Mountain. These heights divide the northern drainage from the Maumelle River basin to the south, where the rising waters of Lake Maumelle begin to dominate the valley floor.
