The Saint Joe River flows through the southern reaches of this mountain landscape within the St Joe National Forest. The small riverfront settlements of Hoyt and Ethelton serve as the primary human centers, connected by the St Joe River Rd. The terrain is defined by significant elevations, including Foolhen Mountain and Mastodon Mtn in the north, and Dunn Peak to the east.
