Maverick sits at the northern edge of this high-elevation landscape, where numerous cienegas and seasonal drainages define the hydrology of the White Mountains region. The terrain is a network of named meadows and wetlands, including Odart Cienega, Willow Cienega, and the curiously named Pair o'Dice Cienega. These features, often associated with grazing and wildlife, are interspersed with water management sites like Salt House Tank and McDonald Tank.
