About this map

The Black River meanders through the heart of the Mississippi Delta country in this early 1980s study of the Catahoula and Concordia Parish borderlands. This landscape is defined by its intricate hydrological network of oxbows and backwaters, including Eagle Nest Lake, Gator Hole, and Buttonwood Slough. The rural settlements of Mayna, Eva, and Glade are connected by improved roads, but much of the area's movement is still oriented around the river and the massive Jonesville Lock and Dam.
