Wrangell-St. Elias Wilderness dominates this high-altitude landscape within the Wrangell Mountains. The survey documents a critical drainage divide at Chisana Pass, a natural corridor through the peaks that separates the headwaters of major glacial systems. To the north, the massive Chisana Glacier flows toward the interior, while the southern slopes feed the Nizina Glacier. The area is strictly managed as a combination of Wrangell-Saint Elias National Park and the adjacent Wrangell-Saint Elias National Preserve. This terrain serves as a pristine example of Alaskan glacial topography, where the vast ice fields and high-elevation passes define the limits of travel and drainage in the Copper River region.
