Saint-Louis River and McCarty River define this wet, forested landscape in southern Saint Louis County. This 2016 survey illustrates a terrain dominated by the massive Toivola Swamp, which covers much of the northwest and central portions of the quadrangle. The drainage patterns are complex, with the Whiteface River and Little Whiteface River converging in the north, while the Saint Louis River snakes through the southern reaches. Human presence is largely defined by a grid of rural roads and county routes that navigate the edges of the wetlands, including Fisher Rd and Mc Gonagle Rd. The presence of Ditch 4-11 Rd suggests historically significant water management efforts aimed at reclaiming or managing these vast peatlands for local land use.
