McCracken Spring sits at the heart of this high desert landscape in San Juan County, where a network of ephemeral drainages and named points defines the topography. The high, flat expanse of McCracken Mesa dominates the southern half of the sheet, bounded by the deep incisions of McCracken Canyon. To the north, the land rises toward Shumway Point and Alkali Point, which overlook a complex system of washes including Horse Creek and Alkali Creek. The modern road network, including the aptly named Around the World Rd and the long stretch of Hovenweep Rd, traces the ridges and swales of this arid environment, providing access to remote features like Bullpen Swale and Cave Canyon. This survey documents the intersection of essential water sources and the navigational challenges of the Four Corners region.
