The Medicine Wheel archaeological landmark stands as the focal point of this high-altitude landscape within the Bighorn National Forest. Located on the slopes of Medicine Mtn, the site is surrounded by dramatic geological features like Tillets Hole and the deep incision of Devil Canyon. The terrain is defined by a series of high ridges and basins, including the Five Springs Basin and the prominent Five Springs Point. A network of watercourses, such as Porcupine Cr and Elk Springs Cr, drains the plateau toward the Bighorn Basin to the west. Evidence of older transportation routes is preserved through labels for the Old Highway, while the eastern portion of the map includes the family-named area of Mayland. Notable vertical relief is illustrated near Bucking Mule Falls and the overlook at Lowmiller Bench.
