About this map

Middlebury and the surrounding townships of Addison County reveal a landscape defined by the steep North-South spine of the Hogback Mountains and the winding Otter Creek. The early 20th-century economy is visible through the presence of the Bristol Orebed and another Orebed further north near Monkton, evidence of the region's historical iron mining. In the fertile lowlands of the Bristol Flats, the New Haven River supported clusters of industry and community at New Haven Mills and Brooksville.
