Lake Shelbyville dominates the northern half of this Shelby County landscape, its sprawling waters reaching into the many drainages of central Illinois. The small settlements of Middlesworth and Lithia serve as anchors for a region defined by its numerous family and community burial grounds. These cemeteries, including Middlesworth Cem, Caldwell Cem, and Mahoney Cem, are scattered across the uplands above the lake and along the winding courses of Skull Cr and Sand Cr.
