Miller Lake and Sylvan Lake sit at the center of this high-elevation wilderness where the boundaries of the Kootenai National Forest, Kaniksu National Forest, and Lolo National Forest converge. The landscape is defined by its dramatic verticality, rising to summits like Owl Peak and Blacktail Peak while dropping sharply toward the Vermilion River and the cascade of Vermilion Falls. This 2017 survey documents a modern network of Forest Service roads, including Natl Forest Develop Road 154 Rd and Blue Slide Rd, which provide access through a region shaped by high passes and deep drainage basins. From the northern reaches of Houghton Creek to the southern depths of Thirteen Gulch, the map captures the complex topography of the Lincoln and Sanders county line.
