Evidence of early 20th-century industry and community life is visible in the numerous numbered school districts, such as No 5 School and No 10 School, alongside the Talc Mine south of Waterbury. The transportation network of the era is well-defined, showing the Central Vermont and M and W R R rail lines following the river grades, while the Roosevelt Highway reflects the emerging importance of automobile travel through the Middlesex Gorge. Local history is preserved in the location of the Sodom PO and several rural burying grounds including North Branch Cemetery.
