Naranjos and the namesake Mora Ranch anchor this high-altitude landscape in Mora County, where the plains give way to significant mesa formations. The eastern edge of the quadrangle is defined by the historic corridor of the Santa Fe Trl, which skirts the base of Charette Mesa and Aguaje Canyon. This area is characterized by the drainage of Ocate Cr, which flows past the Calhoun Cem as it winds through the valley floor. To the north and west, the terrain rises sharply into prominent flat-topped features including Apache Mesa, Rivera Mesa, and Encinosa Mesa. The presence of Laguna Yeso in the northeast corner highlights the scattered water sources that supported early ranching and travel along the historic trail routes.
