Atkins and Oak Grove anchor this region of Pope County, where the southern foothills of the Ozarks meet the drainage basins of the Arkansas River valley. The landscape is defined by the prominent heights of Iron Ore Mtn and Carrion Crow Mtn, with the latter rising above the valley floor north of the Interstate 40 corridor. Local genealogy is well-documented through numerous family and community burial grounds, including Hudson Cem near Moreland and the Shady Grove Cem located just south of Oak Grove.
