Mount Cecelia and the high points of the Lewis and Clark National Forest region define this landscape of the early 1980s. The area is marked by a network of drainage systems including Muddy Creek, Hunters Creek, and the many branches of Lepley Creek, which carve through the prominent terrain of China Mountain and Skull Butte. Human activity is concentrated along the St Peter Mission Road, which winds through the central hills, passing by Dime Hill and Mission Hill.

Evidence of early land use and resource extraction appears in the form of scattered Prospects and a Gravel Pit. The map captures a transition from the level terrain of Muddy Flats in the north to the distinctive geologic formations of Rocky Reef and Rocky Gap. Numerous unnamed Springs are documented across the slopes, indicating the critical water sources that supported ranching and travel in this part of Cascade County.
