Chistochina Glacier and the Robertson Glacier dominate the northern terrain of this interior Alaskan region, their massive ice fields marked by extensive crevasses as they flow around Mt Kimball. The landscape is a complex network of glacial meltwater and seasonal drainages, where the West Fork Chistochina River and Middle Fork Chistochina River carve through the high country.

Resource extraction and seasonal transit are evident throughout the watersheds, particularly near Chisna and Slate Creek. The map records a Placer Mine and a Sawmill near Trout Lake, alongside a remote Landing Strip and a series of Winter Trails that provided the only reliable access through this environment. In the south, the Mankomen Lake Recreation Site at Mankomen Lake represents a transition from industrial activity to modern land use within the Fairbanks Meridian.
