About this map

The braided channels of the Tanana River dominate the northern corridor of this Interior Alaska region, where the Alaska Highway runs parallel to the waterway. This mid-century survey illustrates the vital transportation and communication links established in the territory, including an Aboveground Pipeline and a prominent Telephone Line that trace the path of the highway. Near the eastern edge, the settlement of Dot Lake and an adjacent Indian Village represent the primary human habitations, supported by a nearby Landing Strip. South of the river, the landscape rises toward the high elevations of Knob Ridge. The terrain is marked by numerous drainage systems such as Sam Creek and Johnson Slough, alongside isolated upland bodies of water like Plateau Lake and Fish Lake.
