The High Sierra backcountry of the Sierra National Forest and Kings Canyon National Park converges on this survey of the Sierra Nevada. The landscape is dominated by the massive Glacier Divide and Le Conte Divide, forming a high-altitude network of basins and peaks including Mt Henry and Emerald Peak. This area is a critical junction for wilderness travel, where the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trl winds through Evolution Valley and Evolution Meadow, following the course of the South Fork San Joaquin River.
