Mount Prophet dominates the central high ground of this Whatcom County terrain, where the northern wilderness of Washington is preserved within two major federal jurisdictions. The boundary between the Ross Lake National Recreation Area and North Cascades National Park bisects the landscape, which is defined by high peaks like Elephant Butte and Sourdough Mtn. The Pacific NW National Scenic Trail winds through the drainage basins of Big Beaver Cr and McMillan Cr, providing a singular corridor for movement through the steep vertical environment. Numerous alpine waterways, including Luna Cr, Arctic Cr, and Stetattle Cr, feed into the regional watershed. This modern topographic study reveals a landscape almost entirely devoted to conservation, where human infrastructure is limited to primitive trails and the natural hydrological network remains the primary structural feature of the land.
