About this map

The Red River defines the border between Fannin County, Texas, and Bryan County, Oklahoma, carving a winding path through a landscape of creek bottoms and low-lying sloughs. Small settlements like Liberty and Mulberry sit back from the river's immediate floodplain, connected by a network of county roads and farm-to-market routes such as FM 1753. This area is characterized by numerous small family and community burial grounds, including the Kemp-Reynolds Family Cem and Mount Zion Cem. The terrain is dissected by several significant tributaries, notably Caney Creek and Little Caney Cr, which drain the southern portion of the map. North of the river, Spies Lake and the Choctaw Slough highlight the complex hydrology of the valley. A unique modern landmark, the XWind Farm Airport, appears near the Oklahoma-Texas line, signaling the continued importance of transportation in this rural borderland.
