The arid basin is defined by substantial Sand Dunes and the ephemeral drainage of Truxton Wash, which cuts through the southern half of the quadrangle. The settlement of Truxton serves as the primary human landmark, surrounded by essential water infrastructure required for ranching and survival in the high desert, such as Crack Tank, Marshall Tank, and Hackberry Tank.

Evidence of local land use is noted through several marked locations for a Herd and a Corral, illustrating the area's grazing history. This survey, conducted using aerial photography from 1967 and field-checked in 1968, provides a precise record of the natural terrain and sparse improvements in this portion of the Music Mountains southwest area before further modern development reached this part of Arizona.
