1948 Map of Mustang Mountains

USGS Topo · Published 1953

About this map

Mustang Mountains rise sharply above the high desert floor in this late 1940s landscape, where ranching and rail define the local economy. The southern portion of the map is dominated by the San Ignacio Del Babocomari grant, a vast historic land division through which the Southern Pacific railroad runs parallel to the Babocomari River. This transport corridor links the isolated cattle operations of the era, including the well-established Babocomari Ranch near the riverbanks.
