Muttonchop Butte rises above a high-altitude landscape defined by timber management and an extensive network of forest access routes. Located within the overlapping reaches of the Deschutes National Forest and Winema National Forest, this terrain is carved by the Little Deschutes River and smaller drainages like Hemlock Cr and Swamp Cr. The 2017 data highlights a modern recreational and service infrastructure, including numerous off-highway vehicle paths such as Chemult Run and the Crater Butte Trail. While primary routes like Walker Mountain Rd provide access, the map is dominated by numbered National Forest Development Roads. Near the southern boundary, Corral Spring provides a rare named water point in a region otherwise characterized by its volcanic peaks and dense wooded stands, including the prominent Little Walker Mtn to the east.
