Naturita and the surrounding river valley show the marks of a century of water management and transit in this corner of Colorado. The San Miguel River carves a path through the landscape, flanked by a complex network of irrigation systems including the Reed-Chatfield Ditch and the Parkway Ditch. Settlement is concentrated along the riverbanks, particularly in the tri-part community of Vancorum, West Vancorum, and East Vancorum.
