Buckwater Spring and the winding course of Bluewater Creek define the northern drainage patterns of this Lincoln County landscape. The area is characterized by a series of deep, named incisions into the high desert plateau, including Blackwater Canyon and Nelson Canyon. To the east, Deadman Canyon and Pruit Canyon cut through the terrain, while the southern reaches are marked by the broad depressions of Big Draw and Tecolote Canyon. A single managed route, Co Rd E034, provides limited access in the northeast corner near the canyon rims.
