The Little Fork River meanders through the heart of this Koochiching County landscape, defining the local topography with its deep bends and drainage network. This 2016 survey illustrates the intersection of natural waterways and modern tribal infrastructure, notably near the Bois Forte Cem in the northern reaches. The area is characterized by a mix of wetlands and low-lying terrain, drained by the Gardner Brook which feeds into the larger river system.
