New Carlisle and the surrounding Saint Joseph County landscape are defined by a mosaic of small glacial lakes and straight-line agricultural grids. The settlement of Hudson Lake sits at the center of this hydrographic network, surrounded by smaller bodies of water like Saugany Lake, Silver Lake, and Finger Lake. This 2010 survey shows the area's deep-rooted community history through its numerous burial grounds, including Teeter Cemetery and Saint Cemetery near the hamlet of Birchim, as well as Sauktown Cemetery to the south.
