Milk River winds through the northern portion of this Glacier County landscape, defining the drainage patterns for a series of deep northern Montana coulees. The topographic relief is dominated by the Red Buttes, a series of prominent landforms situated south of the river and east of the Nightshoot Coulee. This 1968 field-checked survey reveals an environment shaped by water erosion and modern infrastructure, evidenced by the long Pipeline corridor cutting diagonally across the northern townships.
