Arcadia and the surrounding DeSoto County flatlands are defined by the meandering course of the Peace River, which flows southward through a landscape of citrus groves and rural homesteads. This 2015 survey illustrates the modern layout of the historic citrus hub at Nocatee and the smaller settlement of Tryon to the north. The area's agricultural and rural character is evidenced by the numerous local road names such as NW Poultry St and NW Pine Bridge Dr, alongside family landmarks like Mc Donald's Field. To the west of the river, Horse Cr and its tributary Buzzard Roost Br drain into the primary river system, where several small water bodies like Bee Gum Lake and Johnson Lake dot the low-lying terrain. Local heritage is preserved in sites such as Owens Cem and the small community of Owens, reflecting the long-standing settlement patterns of this Florida interior region.
