Norge and Lightfoot anchor the northeastern corridor of this landscape, where the Chesapeake and Ohio railroad runs parallel to established settlements and several cemeteries. The western half is dominated by the tidal complexities of the Chickahominy River, featuring a network of marshy islands like Yarmouth Island and Wright Island, and numerous winding waterways such as Gordon Creek and Uncles Neck Creek.

Industry and local community life are evident through the sandpits near Centerville and the grouping of rural churches including New Zion Ch and James River Ch. To the southeast, the expansive grounds of the Eastern State Hospital Res and the growing residential area of Jamestown Farms signal the shifting land use toward the latter half of the twentieth century. Traditional landings like Shipyard Landing and Claybank Landing persist along the river, marking long-standing points of access to the water.
