The Mohawk Valley dominates this high-desert landscape in Yuma County, serving as a corridor between the steep Mohawk Mountains to the northeast and the northern edge of the Sierra Pinta to the southwest. This 1990 provisional survey documents a strictly managed landscape where environmental conservation and military operations intersect. Much of the southern terrain is protected within the Cabeza Prieta National Wildlife Refuge, while the northern portion falls under the jurisdiction of the Barry M Goldwater Air Force Range. The land is defined by its Restricted status and a network of 4wd tracks that represent the only infrastructure through these arid basins. This map is particularly useful for understanding the established Wilderness and Wildlife Refuge Boundary at a time when federal land management in the Arizona desert was becoming increasingly formalized.
