Lake Erie defines the northern reaches of this coastal landscape, where the suburban growth of Bay Village and Avon Lake meets the established residential grids of Westlake and North Olmsted. The terrain is characterized by a series of prominent geological features including North Ridge, Butternut Ridge, and Center Ridge, which have long dictated the orientation of local transit and settlement. Much of the southern portion is dominated by the Bradley Woods Reservation and the sprawling grounds of Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery.

Cultural landmarks and community infrastructure are well-documented, from the Bay View Hospital near the shore to the Bosworth Airport on the western edge. The Norfolk and Western and Penn Central railroads cut through the townships, serving the industrial and commuter needs of a region in transition.
