Sully Buttes rise above the surrounding plains of Sully County, marking the transition from upland prairie down toward the Missouri River valley. The landscape is defined by the winding course of Okobojo Creek, which feeds into Lake Okobojo before reaching the vast expanse of Lake Oahe in the southwestern corner of the quadrangle. This area, largely organized by a grid of rural section roads like Onida Rd and 284th Ave, retains its agricultural character while showing the significant impact of mid-century water management on the regional geography. The small settlement of Okobojo sits near the creek, illustrating the historical reliance on these water sources for early navigation and township placement in the Dakota Territory. Local landmarks such as Steffen Dr and Finderosa Pl indicate contemporary residential developments near the shoreline of the dammed river.
