Mahopac Mines stands as a prominent industrial landmark on the eastern edge of this Putnam County landscape, north of the residential developments near Mahopac Falls. The terrain is defined by a series of north-south valleys and ridges, with the Appalachian National Scenic Trail winding through the western highlands past Wiccopee Pass and Pelton Pond. Water management is central to the area's geography, evidenced by the large Wiccopee Reservoir and the subterranean path of the Delaware Aqueduct cutting across the northern section toward Sagamore Lake. Numerous small hamlets like Tompkins Corners and Richardsville are linked by a network of historic roads, including the Taconic State Pkwy. For genealogists, several burial grounds are preserved across the quadrangle, such as the Union and Halstead Cem near Meads Corners and the Bailey Cem along Peekskill Hollow Rd.
