Angel Fire sits in a high alpine basin, serving as a focal point for this survey of the northern New Mexico highlands. The terrain is defined by the convergence of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and the Santa Fe Mountains, with the Carson National Forest blanketing much of the high ground. Waterways like Coyote Cr and the Mora River drain these peaks, creating a network of high-altitude meadows such as Valle Largo and Jarocita Park.
