Lincoln National Forest encompasses much of this high-desert landscape in the southern Guadalupe Mountains. The terrain is defined by a series of deep drainage cuts, including the namesake Packsaddle Canyon, Box Canyon, and Wildhorse Canyon. Water management is the primary human footprint visible here, evidenced by a dense network of catchment features like Chimney Reservoir Number One, Chimney Reservoir Number Two, and numerous tanks such as Bowman Tank and Neal Tank.
