Payne Mesa and the surrounding high desert plateau define this part of Mesa County, where deep drainages like Tommy Dodson Canyon and Jefferson Canyon carve into the landscape. The Little Dolores River winds through the central portion of the quadrangle, joined by numerous seasonal watercourses including Payne Wash, Dierich Creek, and Maiden Creek. Human infrastructure is sparse, concentrated primarily in the northern Glade Park area with a network of numbered ranch roads such as D S RD.
