Baldy Peak and the Black Hills dominate the high ground of this Sonoran Desert landscape in southern Arizona. The terrain is defined by a dense network of ephemeral watercourses including Tascuela Wash, San Juan Wash, and Peñitas Wash, which channel seasonal runoff through the arid basins between the Sierrita Mountains and the Peñitas Hills. This 2021 topographic record reveals the critical infrastructure of desert ranching, where numerous artificial water catchments like La Cholla Tank, Black Hill Tank, and Soldado Tank are strategically positioned to support livestock.
