Penn Yan serves as the focal point of this Yates County landscape, situated at the northern tip of Keuka Lake where the Keuka Lake Outlet begins its eastward flow. The industrial heritage of the waterway is evident in a series of mill sites along the outlet, including Kenka Mills, Milo Mills, and Seneca Mills, tracing a path toward the edge of the quadrangle. North of the village, the terrain transitions into a grid of agricultural lands and smaller rural hubs like Benton Center and Benton.
