Agricultural water management and large-scale ranching define the landscape between Pierce and the eastern edge of El Campo. The area is heavily intersected by a network of drainage and irrigation features, most notably the Pierce Canal and the extensive basin systems including Roach Reservoir and Twin Basin. These features, along with the headwaters of the Tres Palacios River, highlight the region's reliance on managed water for its prairie ranching and farming operations.
