The Upper Missouri River-Breaks National Monument defines the southern reach of this landscape in Chouteau County, where the plains give way to a complex system of drainages. The terrain is marked by named rises such as Lidstone Hill, Fourmile Hill, and Tox Hill, which stand above the wide PW Flats. This network of erosional features includes Pigtail Coulee and Holden Coulee, which carry runoff toward the Missouri River breaks to the south.
