About this map

The boundary between Chouteau Co and Blaine Co bisects this high-plain landscape in north-central Montana, where the terrain is dominated by a series of distinct flat-topped mesas known as benches. Most prominent are Greens Bench, Golf Bench, and Cummings Bench, which rise above the surrounding drainage networks. The hydrological pattern is defined by several deeply incised coulees, including Wolf Coulee, Black Coulee, and Coal Coulee, all feeding into the Birch Creek system.
