The South Fork Salmon River carves a deep central path through this Idaho County backcountry, serving as the primary drainage for a network of high-elevation tributaries. In this 2011 survey, the landscape is defined by its watercourses and limited forest access routes, most notably the Elk Summit Rd which traverses the southern portion of the quadrangle. The confluence of Elk Creek and the Salmon River marks a significant point in the local hydrology, joined further south by Johnson Creek.
