Oberlin serves as the primary population center in this portion of Allen Parish, situated at the southern edge of a landscape defined by the winding course of the Calcasieu River. The river creates a complex network of wetlands and oxbows, joined by numerous tributaries including Mill Cr, Little Mill Cr, and Chinquapin Cr. To the north, the small settlement of Pine Chapel sits near the intersection of S River Rd and Reeds Bridge Rd. The area's rural character is emphasized by the presence of the Oaklin Springs Baptist Cem, a significant landmark for local family historians. The terrain is a mixture of low-lying creek bottoms and subtle rises, with drainage provided by features like Long Gully and Orange Gully. A grid of local roads, such as Turner Rd and Pistol Ridge Rd, provides access across the various townships and ranges of the southwestern Louisiana timberlands.
