Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument encompasses the majority of this high-desert landscape along the Utah and Arizona border. The topography is dominated by the dramatic uplift of The Cockscomb, a prominent ridgeline that trends north-to-south, flanked by the deep incisions of Buckskin Gulch and Coyote Wash. To the west, the Kaibab Plateau rises toward Buckskin Mountain, while the eastern portion of the map transitions into the Paria Canyon-Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness.
