Rock Creek carves a path through this high-plains landscape in Albany County, defining the local drainage patterns as it flows near Pine Tree Ridge. The terrain is characterized by a series of alkaline depressions and seasonal water bodies, most notably the large basin of Soda Lake and the smaller Soda Lakes nearby. These features, along with Dry Lake and Mud Springs to the north, reflect the arid environment and the unique hydrography of the Wyoming basin floor.
